We recommend you send a thank you letter to the scholarship donor. You can mail it to the SCF office, and we will forward it to the appropriate person(s).
Your award letter identifies where your scholarship check will be sent.
For high school-based scholarships, a check is sent directly to your high school, and they will transfer the funds to your college, university, or trade school.
For county-wide scholarships, the checks are mailed directly to the college or school you will be attending. Please confirm the college you will attend and provide us with your student ID number.
No, if you have committed to a college and have received a full-tuition scholarship from that school (or another source such as ROTC, or an appointment to a service academy), then you must decline your SCF scholarship. Please contact the SCF office in writing.
You will want to discuss your situation with your college’s financial aid office. Upon written request, SCF may consider deferring your scholarship, if necessary, for up to two (2) years.
If you plan to defer your college admission, you may still use your scholarship if you do so within one (1) year of the award date. Please contact SCF to discuss your plans.
If you plan to enroll in a different college than the one that you have indicated on your application, please contact SCF’s office so that we may ensure your scholarship is sent to the appropriate financial aid office. If you are awarded a scholarship designated for a specific school, you must notify SCF if you enroll elsewhere. In that case, SCF must withdraw the scholarship.
Most scholarship checks are mailed in late May to early June.
This scholarship may be used toward tuition, fees, and course-required books, supplies, and equipment.
Your scholarship may only be used toward expenses at an accredited institution of higher learning in the United States. This can include community college, career/technical education, or any other two- or four-year accredited program. For students who plan to study abroad, please contact the SCF office. SCF will only issue scholarship payments to the home institution or another U.S. entity.
Please contact the SCF office immediately. Any scholarship balance must be refunded to SCF. It is your responsibility to inform your school that they should issue a refund to the SCF. Should your school inadvertently issue a refund of the SCF scholarship funds to you, you should immediately return the funds to SCF. You have up to one (1) year to use your scholarship (or the unused portion) at another accredited institution.
Please be sure to provide SCF with your current contact information (email and/or mailing address). Before the start of each semester, you will be asked to provide SCF with an unofficial transcript that indicates the grades you earned for the previous semester and proof of enrollment for the upcoming semester. You must be making sufficient academic progress to continue receiving the scholarship award.
