Michael B. Fadely Scholarship
Established by Robert and Linda Fadely in memory of their son Michael to award scholarships to graduating students from Central High School interested in majoring in a technology-related field or engineering.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $1,000 each for two individuals
- A qualified recipient will be a graduating senior or graduating junior who will be attending an accredited four-year college or university on a full-time basis and major in a field of engineering or technology.
- A qualified recipient will have demonstrated a responsible attitude towards academics, preferably with a B average or higher.
- A qualified recipient must be a U.S. citizen.
Bonnie B. Gochenour Scholarship
Established in memory of Bonnie B. Gochenour who was a beloved English teacher at Central High School.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $500
- Selection process: An applicant will submit an application in the form prescribed by Central High School. Applicants will also submit a short creative writing sample with their application. This can be a poem or other writing that was originally part of a homework assignment or written for other purposes. Central High School will prescribe the length criteria for the submission.
- A qualified recipient’s interest in English, English Literature, Education, or Creative Writing will be a primary consideration.
CHS Alumni Scholarship
Established by alumni of Central High School to support the educational aspirations of graduating seniors.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $1,000
- Selection process: There is an application form including an essay “What are my Goals?” The school’s scholarship committee will select the winner of this scholarship each year.
- Candidates must attend a post-high school training program (college, junior college, or technical school).
- Candidates must have attended CHS for at least 2 years.
The CHS Class of 1978 Memorial Scholarship
Established by alumni of the class of ’78 and friends in memory of departed classmates.
• Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $500
• Selection process: There is an application form including an essay “What are my Goals?” The school’s scholarship committee will select the winner of this scholarship each year.
• Candidates must attend a post-high school training program (college, junior college, or technical school).
• Candidates must have attended CHS for at least 4 semesters
Harry H. Combs Memorial Scholarship
Established by family and friends in memory of Harry Combs to provide a scholarship to a graduating Central High School student.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $5,500
- Selection process: There is no application form. The school’s scholarship committee will select the winner of this scholarship each year.
- Candidates must have been accepted, and be planning to attend, the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
- Financial need may be considered.
Colton T. Lindamood Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Colton T. Lindamood to provide grants to Central High School students with an interest in agribusiness and/or auto mechanics.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $1,400
- Selection process: There is no application form. The school’s scholarship committee will select the winner of this scholarship each year.
- Candidates must be attending a post-high school training program (college, junior college, or technical school) studying agribusiness or auto mechanics.
Doris Knicely Scholarship Fund
Established in memory of Doris Knicely to provide a scholarship to a Central High School graduating senior with an interest in consumer science or a related field.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $250
- Applicants must plan to major in a field relating to Family and Consumer Sciences.
- All else being equal, preference will be given to students who are majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and who are members of FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America).
Milt & Mattie Pence Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established by Donald M. Pence in memory of his parents to provide a scholarship for a graduating Central High School student from the Edinburg area who has higher education as a goal but needs financial assistance to attain this goal.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $16,600; scholarship may be divided among multiple recipients
- Preference is given to Edinburg residents
Jessica Pumphrey Memorial Scholarship
Established by family and friends in memory of Jessica Pumphrey to provide a scholarship to a Central High School student exhibiting outstanding achievement in academics, the arts, and athletics.
• Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $400
• Selection process: There is no application form. The school’s administration and scholarship committee will select the winner of this scholarship each year. Nominations will be sought from the Math, Art, and Athletic Departments.
Additional Information:
• Candidates must have exhibited high standards of character and integrity as well as outstanding performance in all three areas of academics, the arts, and sports.
Ethel L. Wisman Memorial Scholarship
Established by Maxine Pence in memory of her sister, Ethel L. Wisman who was a teacher at Central High School for over 30 years,
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $1,500
- A qualified recipient’s academic record will be in good standing. This student will be highly motivated to learn.
- A qualified recipient’s interest in studying Education will be a primary consideration.
Donald and Mary Womble Scholarship
Established in memory of Donald and Mary Womble to provide a scholarship to a Central High School graduating senior with an interest in education.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $500
- Applicants must plan to major in a field relating to Education.
Luke Isaac Heird Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Luke Heird to provide grants to graduating seniors of Central High School who have exhibited excellence of character with qualities of leadership and a responsible attitude toward academics.
- Scholarship Amount: 2024 – $1,200
